Project: Hi-Rise Building Fire: Water Damage Drying
Solution: Dry multiple floors utilizing desiccant dehumidifiers, in-line heaters and hi-static air handlers.
Disaster can strike at any hour. At approximately 4:00am on a quiet Saturday morning, fire crews were called out to the 8th floor of a high rise office building. Fire crews quickly contained the blaze to the 8th floor, but the damage was already done. The 8th floor suffered major fire and water damage. Floors 6 and 7, although unaffected by the flames, suffered major water damage. At 8:00am, Carrier Rental Systems' (CRS) team was called in to provide a fast, economical solution to the restoration company and building owner. By 12:00pm, fire crews released the building and the restoration phase began. By 2:00 pm, CRS's team had equipment in place.
Due to the fire and water damage on the 7th and 8th floors, CRS provided a 500kVA transformer and distribution panel to power 110 and 220 volt service. By utilizing desiccant dehumidifiers, in-line heaters and hi-static air handlers, CRS was able to keep the moisture levels in the building low while maintaining enough air flow to dry floors 6, 7, and 8. Space limitations at the street level and the need to maximize air flow, required placing all temperature control equipment on the 5th floor roof parking level. All power equipment had to remain at street level and electrical cable was placed along side the building.
