New 23XRV Carrier Evergreen Chiller Proves Itself in Field Trials Prior to Sales Release

(Syracuse, NY – November 7, 2005) – Carrier North America Commercial recently introduced the Evergreen® 23XRV chiller using HFC-134a refrigerant to the press and over 400 customers at their “Shuttle to Charlotte” event. However, this new robust chiller, available from 300 to 550 tons in the United States and Canada now and for export sometime in 2006, has already proven itself.   The 23XRV has had over 40,000 hours of operation in the lab and over 30,000 hours of operation without any major issues during its field trials at customer sites across the United States.  From installations in hotels to hospitals, process to temp cooling, the field trial installations clearly exhibit the chiller’s superior energy efficiency and reliability.

Carrier Rental Systems has been working with the Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester located in New Rochelle, New York for three years. Originally in 2002, one Trane 450 ton chiller and one Carrier 600 ton 19XL chiller were installed for the 476 bed medical facility to use during the cooling season. This year, Carrier Rental Systems wanted to find an even more efficient option for the hospital’s systems so they decided to participate in the Evergreen 23XRV field study with the consent of the medical center.

“We wanted to see for ourselves the advantages of the new 23XRV and how we could use it for other jobs in the future” said George Doring of Carrier Rental Systems. “Sound Shore Medical Center was a premier candidate for us to install our first 23XRV as their needs for efficiency were paramount and this chiller would definitely meet those needs,” added Doring. The 450 ton Trane chiller was replaced by the new Evergreen 23XRV chiller with the original 600 ton 19XL chiller remaining in place for days with higher load needs. North America Commercial monitored the chiller’s usage and energy savings for the field trial results.

“This new chiller is a great option for our jobs as we often depend on diesel generators to provide power for our temporary chiller installations. The 23XRV is so efficient with its variable speed drive that we can use smaller generators that cost less to rent, save space and use less fuel thus saving our customers like Sound Shore Medical Center money,” said Rich Gilliland a sales manager for Carrier Rental Systems.

Reliability and energy efficiency were also key factors in other field trial sites. One chiller was installed in a process application at Standard Register in Tulsa, Oklahoma. “As a replacement job for an old failing chiller, we first recommended the 19XR chiller but the owners needed very high energy savings to justify the new machine. Thus, when we heard that the 23XRV was available for the trial we knew this would be the right chiller for Standard Register,” said Tony Stafford of Carrier Service in Tulsa. “We won the job and the new 23XRV was installed in late 2004,” added Stafford.

Two 23XRV Evergreen chillers were installed in March of 2005 at Cape Coral Hospital in Tampa, Florida. “Superior energy efficiency was the main reason the hospital selected the 23XRV,” stated Gregg Rowley of Carrier Service in Tampa. “The 23XRV is definitely meeting the quiet operation and energy efficiency needs of this hospital and we are confident that this success will lead to future sales opportunities with this hospital and its partnering health care facilities,” added Rowley.

Sam Henstra of the Carrier Service office in Provo, Utah agrees, “Our sale and installation of the new 23XRV chiller into the Marriott Hotel in Provo in June 2005 has been a complete success.  Our customer has been spreading the word to others that this is the best chiller they have ever had installed at one of their properties.” As a result, the Salt Lake City service office has been receiving inquiries about the new chiller operating at the hotel from across the country and is looking forward to future 23XRV chiller sales and installations. “We are very excited about this chiller and its superior energy efficiency,” added Henstra.
