Carrier Rental Systems Goes Extreme
(EAST BERNARD, TX, Jan. 21,
2006) -- Carrier Rental Systems (a division of Carrier
Corporation), a specialty provider of
temperature control and power generation equipment recently lent a
hand to help a family in need. In the small town of East
Bernard, TX, ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition broke ground on a
new home and began rebuilding a family's life. Carrier Rental
Systems (CRS) provided temporary
comfort heating and cooling equipment to production,
catering and construction tents during the 7-day makeover.
The show, which aired Sunday, February 19, features the Kubena
family. The Kubena’s have four children, including
identical twin girls, Sarah and Tara, age 7 who are battling
leukemia. Medical bills and a long drive to and from the
hospital, forced part of the family to move into a 1,200 ft.
single-wide trailer behind their grandfather's house.
Since they were two years old, Tara and Sara have undergone several
rounds of chemotherapy and radiation before they were both declared
to be in remission. However, recently Tara's leukemia relapsed. Her
best chance at survival was a bone marrow transplant, which she
received in October of 2005. For the past four months
Tara and her mother have been living at the hospital away from the
family. In order for Tara to fully recover, she must live
under certain strict conditions, one of which is to be completely
separated from her other siblings due to her fragile immune system.
The Extreme Makeover: Home Edition team was challenged with
building a “healthy home” that included two HEPA air filtration
units.
CRS contacted the construction firm overseeing the project to see if
it (or the company) could lend a hand. Three 30’x30’tents
were set up for use during construction and final filming which took
place 24 hours a day. CRS provided three modified Carrier
50TFF ten ton air conditioners (with heat strips) allowing each tent
the ability to work in cooling or heating modes. "With
Southeast Texas' winters you never know what the weather will
deliver and these units give us the flexibility for a variety of
applications and site limitations" said Aaron Knape, CRS
Technical Sales Representative. “The reveal at the end of the
project was pretty exciting. The family was shocked with
disbelief when they saw their new 4,500 sq. foot home.”
